COURSE DESCRIPTION

The flagship program of Sirat Seminary. The program has been meticulously constructed to provide students- upon completion, with a critical understanding of the religion, through the pathway of traditional study and modern technology. Students begin by essential foundation building or ta’sil in the most important ‘ulum al-was’il or supplementary sciences, as well as grounding in the ‘ulum al-maqasid or main sciences, through beginner primers or texts and all the way through more advanced texts.

– Ta’thim al-‘Ilm – Sh Dr Salih al-‘Usaymi

• ‘Aqeedah/ Theology:
– Foundations of the Sunnah (Usul al-Sunnah)- Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal
Al-Haa’iyyah- Ibn Abi Dawud al-Sijistani

Tazkiyah, Tarbiyah & Character Development:
– The Key to the Saintly Path (Miftah tariq al-Awliya)– Ibn Shaykh al-Hizamiyyin (d. 711 H)

A short primer from a master of Tazkiyah, the 8th century Hanbali scholar; Ibn Shaykh al-Hizamiyyin, gives insight into the deeper, inner workings of the soul, spiritual awakening, awareness and the actions that one must strive to fulfil upon the path of knowledge.

– Venerating Knowledge (Ta’thim al-‘Ilm) – Sh Dr Salih al-‘Usaymi

A monumental work covering 20 milestones in the path of sacred, Islamic knowledge, written by Shaykh Dr. Salih b, ‘Abdillah al-‘Usaymi (may Allah preserve him). Ranging from sincerity and purifying the vessel of knowledge- one’s heart, to the etiquettes of a student of knowledge with Allah, himself and his teachers,

‘Aqeedah/ Theology:
– Foundations of the Sunnah (Usul al-Sunnah)- Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal (d. 241 H)

An explanation of the seminal work of the Imam of Ahl al-Sunnah: Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal (rh) covering the major tenants of creedal belief, as held by the Salaf.

– Al-Haa’iyyah- Ibn Abi Dawud al-Sijistani (d. 316 H)

A versified masterpiece that addresses theological points of consensus and provides an essential overview of knowledge that is pivotal for every student of knowledge to possess in their beginning stages of development.

CERTIFICATION

Upon Completing the course students will receive a certificate of the completed texts and ijazat (licenses) in certain texts, as well as being permitted to progress onto Term 2.

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR

Sh Abu Safiyyah Mohammed Osman is an Islamic theologian, lecturer and teacher of Islamic studies who has taught in many international contexts in the West and the Middle-East. He graduated from Madinah Islamic University (KSA) with a BA Hons in Hadith & Islamic Sciences. The Shaykh has numerous Ijazat (licenses) in various disciplines, such as Hanbali Jurisprudence and many books of Hadith, Arabic language, Usul al-Fiqh, Mustalah al-Hadith and many other sciences, as well as authoring and translating numerous books such as The Woman in the Text: A Collection of Essays. His prominent list of teachers includes Shaykh Dr Abdullah Al-Ghunayman, Sh AbdulMuhsin al-‘Abbad, Shaykh Dr Khalid Afeefi and many others. He is currently completing an MA in Islamic Studies and has lead and directed multiple successful Islamic organisations in the UK, such as SALAM.org and is a khateeb in Masjid al-Ikhlas, Cambridge.
